Smooth Curves in TurboCAD
Occasionally I have people having problems sending curved lines as DXF files to milling machines. The problem is that the curves turn into lots of straight lines, rather than a smooth one. The link below should solve this.

Artlantis with Rhino & MoI
Artlantis plug-in for Rhino 5
Since sometime earlier this year Artlantis has made available a plug in to import Rhino drawings.
So Rhino users can send their drawings to Artlantis, return to Rhino, make changes to the geometry, export a new Artlantis file and recover their previous work done in Artlantis. The Artlantis export plug-in offers a direct transfer from Rhino to Artlantis without the need for intermediate file formats. The Artlantis .atl file format is cross platform; it can be read on both Macintosh and Windows.

The Purge Tool
Available in TurboCAD Pro and Platinum only
Occasionally TurboCAD users will contact me with a problem relating to the size of their file. For no apparent reason their drawing is very large, causing problems printing, sending as an attachment or just generally slowing them down.
The Purge tool could solve this. It is found under File – Drawing Utilities.

New Arrow Tool in TurboCAD v21
Version 21 sees the introduction of an Arrow Tool.
The tool is under DRAW in the standard tool bar, then about two thirds of the way down, you choose from line, polyline, arc or curve.
Next right click, choose properties and set the arrow type, size and whether you want it to have a ‘tail’.

SketchUp Basecamp, Vail, Colorado, 2014
SketchUp Basecamp this year was held in Vail, Colorado, a purpose built skiing town, 8,000 feet high, a few hours drive west of Denver. It is a spectacular location, lots of slopes, restaurants, galleries and shops selling everything you need to break a leg or two.
As usual it was very informative with lots of humour. Aidan Chopra again took the role of master of ceremonies with panache and off the cuff jokes.

Don Cheke is in the process of updating several of his excellent TurboCAD tutorials for v21. Two or three are already ready to download now and I’d highly recommend them, not just to new TC users, but also to those, like me, who think they know it all already.
